Volunteering Information

How can I be a volunteer for the convention?

To start, thank you so much for your interest in our event! We love seeing the community come together, and it's no different with volunteers helping a convention. Volunteering can come in multiple forms: from helping staff a department, signing up to help check badges at doors, running panels, helping with weapon/prop check, and other areas as needed and defined by the convention. Running panels/events is arguably the most popular, since not only are you helping the event with content but you're also getting to spend time talking about your favorite topics with other fans!

Do I get anything in return for being a volunteer?

We know a lot of other events have been known to compensate their volunteers in one way or another, and we think that's awesome. Unfortunately, as we are a very small event by comparison, we do not have the same capabilities that these other events do. At current, the most that we can do is refund your Weekend Pass purchase at the completion of 12 hours of documented volunteer time with us.

How do I sign up to volunteer?

Signing up as a volunteer is really quite simple!

Create an account here at OmniFandomExpo.com and log in.
Click on the main menu dropdown (if on mobile), or if on a computer click on Information.
In the Information dropdown menu, click on Volunteering.
Click Select Work Times.

From here, you will select the department/area you would like to volunteer in, and then choose your own time slots. This way you are able to choose your volunteer times around your own schedule for the convention. Make sure you print out your work hours sheet and bring it with you to the convention so that the Department Heads can sign off on your volunteering hours once they are completed. If you have completed 12 hours of volunteering time, take your signed work hours sheet back to Registration!

How many hours do I need to volunteer to earn my Weekend Pass back?

For Omni Fandom Expo, we require 12 hours of volunteer time signed off by Department Heads to earn a full refund. While you might think that that is alot, remember you have all weekend to work! That makes 3 days at four hours per day, it can be quite easy to earn 12! Want an even easier way? If you run a panel for one hour, that gives you the equivalent of 2 hours of volunteer time. So let's say you run 3 unique panels throughout the weekend - you're half way to your 12! The other 6 hours you can divide up as 2 hours of volunteer time a day. See - easy!
