Contest Rules:
Categories:

Please note that these categories are only examples and suggested guidelines of the categories that may be awarded in the OMNI FANDOM EXPO Anime Music Video (AMV) Competition.  Actual categories will be selected by the judges, based on actual entries received. For example, if no action entries are submitted, or only one or two videos that do not accurately reflect the theme of the category, an award for Best Action may not be presented.

Entrants are to classify each entry under any one of the choices below:
  • Action
  • Drama
  • Comedy
  • Parody
  • Novice
  • Professional
  • DIY OVA
  • Manga Music Video (a.k.a. MMV)
Remember, these are categories of AMVs, not specifically awards.  Awards are added at OMNI FANDOM EXPO's discretion.

Note:

Manga Music Video” is a music video which pertains to the use of Japanese Mangas. The video can contain full pages, panels, or clips from a manga. The MMV can use different mangas.

Comedy” refers to comedic AMVs in all forms, while “parody” specifically refers to videos of a satirical imitative nature (IE, TV commercials, movie trailers, etc).  Parody videos are not necessarily comedic.

The “Novice” category is open only to editors who have never won a ‘Best Of’ award (Best in Show, Best Comedy, Best Technical, etc).  ‘Honorable Mentions’ are still allowed under the Novice category and purely internet contests to not count as official awards.  If you are a novice you MUST state "I am a Novice" in the description of each video you upload to compete for the Novice award.

The “Professional” category is open only to specific videos that have won an award previously.

DIY OVA, or Do It Yourself OVA refers to any video completely composed self created live-action, hand animated, or CG created by the editor. No material taken from an anime, video game, or live-action movie (etc...) will be accepted for this category.  Audio source for a DIY OVA can be original or pre-existing.  the video must follow the theme of the music rather than just being a video of someone performing or lip-synching to the audio.  The DIY OVA must have a Japanese animation, movie, video game, or culture theme.

  3. Only three entries will be accepted per individual.
  4. Entrants unconditionally grant OMNI FANDOM EXPO eternal permission to use entries, to use, copy, share, and exhibit your submission(s) in any way, in part or in entirety, which may include purposes and usages unrelated to this event, and for promotional use on television, radio, in print, and at live events. 11. All judgments by OMNI FANDOM EXPO are final!
Possible Disqualification:

The following will not be allowed in the video and will disqualify you:
  • Video/Audio Quality: There cannot be severe video artifacts, macro-blocks, or severe interlacing, and the audio must sound clean and undistorted.
  • Sound: Dubbed sound from licensed commercial translation.
  • Non-Music: Any entry with excessively long audio dialogue may be disqualified or re-categorized.
  • Studio Trademarks: Entries may not use studio trademarks or logos (e.g. Paramount, Dreamworks, Marvel, WB logos, etc). Parody Trailer entries may use modified green/red bands that do not mention the MPAA or its trademarks.
  • Rating: OMNI FANDOM EXPO determines your entry is over the PG-13 rating. (Do not argue! No exceptions!)
  • Date Requirement: Any entry created prior to one year before the date of OMNI FANDOM EXPO that has been publicly accessible online before that time or has ever participated in any other competition and/or exhibition before that time shall be deemed ineligible to compete.
  • Video Length: AMV entries must be longer than 1min 30sec, and shorter than 6min. Parody entries have no minimum duration. Parody Trailers may not exceed 3min 30sec.
  • Subtitles: Subtitles that are embedded in a licensed commercial translation that do not relate to the composition of the entry. (ie. an AMV that has subtitles interspersed throughout from the original source only because you could not find a "clean" copy of the material). Fan produced subtitles are acceptable if relating to the composition of the entry. (editors are allowed to create their own subtitles relating to the AMV, not the source material).*
  • Watermarks and Logos: Entries must not substantially contain watermarks such as network logos, network “bugs,” or trademark overlays. This includes NHK, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Tokyo MX, TV Tokyo, Divx, and website logos.*
  • Trolls: “Minimal Edit” entries that exhibit little to no editorial effort, such as an entry that contains large chunks of unmodified/uncut/unaltered video footage or entries deemed to be submitted in bad faith or that do not belong in the AMV competition. Any entry that is deemed to do nothing but serve to waste the time of OMNI FANDOM EXPO.
(*) Exceptions may be granted for entries that use a logo, watermark, or subtitle in a creative manner conducive to the video’s concept.

Instant Disqualification:
  • Dishonorable Participation: Entries that causes grief, harm, humiliation, or dishonor to others.
  • Lying: Participants who provide false or incomplete information on their entry to purposely mislead.
  • Plagiarism: Entering someone else’s (in part or total) AMV, without explicit permission, as if it were your own work.
