power ON - Ultimate Gamer Tournament

Are you the best video game fighter you know? Can you expertly play pretty much any fighting game you pick up like it's a mutant power? Can you beat all of your friends until they beg you not to play with them so they have a chance to win? Well, stop kicking your friends all over the battlefield and step up to a challenge that is worthy of your skills! Go against the best gamers out there and prove you have what it takes to be the best there is!

Concept:
power ON is a tournament where 32 contestants compete using a pool of 25 fighting games. The game for each match will be randomly chosen out of the pool of 25 games and the character played by the contestant will also be random. The fighting games will be announced in waves listing the Game and System it is on so that contestants may prepare for the Tournament. Alternatives will be given so that the contestants can study the moves. All games will be announced by the end of March 2014 to provide the contestants time to enhance their skills.

All fighting games will be randomized and after they are selected will be pulled from play until there are only 10 games left. All games removed from play will then be put back into play.

TIME: Saturday, May 24th at 1:00pm in the game room.

Matches: This will be a best 2 out of 3 for each match with double elimination.

Character Randomization Exception: All contestants will also provide their favorite fighting game listing their preferred character to use. If the contestants listed game comes up from the randomization pull for their match, then the contestant will be able to use their preferred character. You will provide this information upon signing in at the tournament.

Game Selections/Systems: Game choices will be done randomly from some of the most current fighting games and some older fighting games. Possible choices that can show up are US PS3, Japanese PS3, Arcade, US 360 and Japanese 360. Only one version of the game will be in the randomization pool from out of all the possible systems (Example: No PS3 & 360 MvC3 in the pool at the same time).

Entry Fee:
Current Entry Fee is $22 for the tournament.
Pre-register for the Tournament in the Tickets section of OMNI EXPO on MyConsOnline.com. Entry is limited to 32 participants.
In the event that there are still available contestant spaces by the time of the tournament, contestants may sign up at the door before the tournament starts. In this case, the entry fee must be paid at the door at time of signup.

First Prize: One XBOX ONE gaming system
Secondary Prizes: TBD

Overall Rules:

All participants who win must be over the age of 18 with ID, or have a parent or guardian present at time of collection of prizes. Prizes will not be given out if this criteria is not met.

Contestant player times will be assigned at the convention. All participants are responsible for knowing what times they are playing after they are assigned. If you are late or not present when your match is starting, you will be disqualified.

If you are disqualified from any game, you are not entitled to a refund of any kind. Be on time and in the right place.

Collusion of any kind with your competitors is considered cheating. If the Tournament Director determines that any competitor is colluding to manipulate the results or intentionally underperforming, the collaborating players may be immediately disqualified. This determination is to be made at the sole discretion of the Tournament Director. Anyone disqualified in this manner forfeits all rights to any titles or prizes they might have otherwise earned for that tournament.

Cheering and jeering from the crowd is perfectly fine, but once trash talk stops being playful and starts being malicious, you have crossed the line and will be thrown out of the venue. You will not be warned! Control yourself and treat others with respect.

All controllers, even those only used in casual play, must be wired to the console. Wireless controllers are prohibited at the event. If you use a wireless controller connected to a console via USB, you must have gutted the battery and must be able to prove to a judge that the controller will not function when it is not plugged into a system. Failure to do so will result in your disqualification and/or the confiscation of your control device until the end of the event. Please do not be selfish or lazy. Pausing someone else’s tournament match because you didn’t want to follow the rules can ruin their game, their attitude, and their weekend. It is completely unacceptable behavior.

Turbo and program functions on controllers are banned. If you are caught using them, you will be disqualified on the spot and ejected from the tournament.

In any game, purposely triggering a bug or glitch that stops the game from being played will award the player who triggered it a loss. If this happens, it will be at the judge’s discretion how to handle the situation. Call a judge over to your game right away for a resolution.

Hygiene is a big thing with us. Please smell nice. If you are offensive at all, you may be asked to leave and rectify it. If you miss your match because of it, you will be disqualified. So, please shower, brush your teeth, wear clean clothes, and so on. Honestly, we should not have to ask this or make it a rule. This is common sense.

Individual Game Rules:

Terminology:

  • Round - A unit of play time measured within a Game. Once a player wins X number of rounds, he wins a Game.
  • Game - When the player wins X number of rounds, the game declares a player the winner. In a tournament, players must win X number of games to win the Set.
  • Set - A number of Games that must be won to advance to the next round.
All games will have 2 out of 3 rounds (with the exception to the finals which will have 3 out of 5) and each round the game will change with a minimum of 2 different games and a maximum of 3 different games.  In each round each entrant will need to win 2 out of 3 games to win the set (with the exception to the finals which will have 3 out of 5).  The winner will continue in the winner’s bracket while the loser will continue to the loser’s bracket.

In all games, the stage and the characters are all randomly selected with the exception of the entrant’s one selected game.  On the entrants selected game they are able to select their favorite characters for one game with the exception of selected banned characters for specific games.  If a banned character is auto-selected due to randomization then opponent who did not receive the banned character has the option to keep the current character selection or also randomize them again.
